New Species for You

Raise your birding game and get out in nature.

Some birds are more elusive than others. Whether you’re just starting out or already have an extensive list of lifers, Birda Locations can help you find those species you’ve yet to see. Now you can reach your birding goals and discover a new favourite birding spot.

How it works

Birda Locations integrates live sightings from Birda users with data from over a billion citizen science records to help you identify the best birding spots. At each location, you’ll find a list of species seen there in the past ten years, along with the probability of seeing them. Accelerate your life list with the ‘New for You’ tab which unlocks a list of birds that you haven’t recorded.

Each species is also assigned a location-specific rarity score, giving you an idea of how likely you are to spot a particular bird in any given month.

How to get started

Open the Birda app on your phone and head to the Discover tab. Tap Locations and it’ll open a map of your current location. You can search or pan around the map to see location pins for different birding hotspots. Check out the species lists for each location and then grab your binoculars and go!

The ‘New for You’ list works best when all your sightings data is on Birda. If you have sightings from another platform, then you can import them below.
